Tips for Your Engagement Session

Why should you have an engagement session?

We highly recommend all couples to have an engagement session with their wedding photographer before their big day if possible. This is for many good reasons:

  • We truly believe in building up with our relationships with our couples as we spend a significant amount of time on the wedding day together

  • For the couples to understand our working style and be more comfortable in front of us

  • For us to get to know them better, from how they interact and to what their photography preference is like

  • Couples have a fun experience getting professional portraits done with amazing portraits to showcase on the wedding day or on the wedding website

Because of how important it is, we include the engagement session as complimentary for all of our full-day collections. We also call it as “get-to-know-you” session as that is really the main objective to prepare for the very special day. We tailor each session to each couple as we want this to be about uniquely you and YOUR love story.

THEMES

We usually start with a theme. Perhaps you have a specific theme in mind that are related to what you like as a couple together or your wedding theme, e.g. Musical, Travel, Picnic, etc

LOCATIONS

It can be a location where you like to hang out together, a special place that ties with your special memories (e.g. first date, proposal location), or can be a totally new place that you want to discover together. Based on your interest, your photographers can suggest appropriate locations for you.

Feel free to check out this link for some reference around Toronto and London Ontario and many spots in between.

STYLING

Do you like to dress up? Casual? Or something in between? Just imagine if you go on a date, what would you like to wear?

We suggest solid color clothing with minimal patterns and wearing clothes that are complement to each other. Accessories are nice if you like to switch things up. Depending on how much time you have with your photographer, we usually suggest no outfit change within one hour to allow for quality time spending together.

For ladies, you can consider professional makeup and hairdo. It is a nice occasion to treat yourself and possibly have your bridal trial done!

PROPS

Special keepsakes? Things relate to your activities together, e.g. playing games, drinking coffee? Your wedding theme, e.g. travel? And don’t forget your beloved pet!

We suggest to keep to 1-2 max if you choose to incorporate props in your session so that it is not overwhelming.
